305 (2008)

IMDB rating: 5.30

Plot: This is the not-so-legendary tale of the five not-so-brave Spartans who didn’t go to Thermopylae, but instead were assigned to guard the secret goat path and ran away at the first sign of trouble. They were the laughing stock of the entire Spartan army. All they had to do was guard a lousy goat path. And they failed. Claudius, Darryl, Demetrius the Blind, Shazaam and Testicleese must embark on a hero’s journey to redeem themselves and become true warriors armed with only a sharpened carrot, a rolling pin and an incredible sense of guilt. Smartly funny and based entirely on historical fact (allegedly), ‘305′ proves that even the biggest losers get lucky sometimes.

tires low profile or not a good idea?
does anyone think that a low profile tire looks tackey on a chevy tahoe ? or is it a waste , and is a 305/45r-22 preetty good or is it too big for my car.

Fernando,

It depends what you have in mind. I can’t say the size is to big, but a tire shop can tell you exactly the right specs. Low profile tires along with a lowered set of springs gives the vehicle a crouched muscular stance. Most car enthusiasts like the look. To live with low profile tires has its share of disadvantages. Low profile tires can bulge from the sidewall if the driver hits a pothole, requiring a new tire. These type of tires are for smooth roads. The ride can be harsh. Besides hugging corners and getting a good start and perhaps wet weather traction the truck’s engineered purpose in life is halved. It can only be a cruiser. If this is what you have in mind then it is a good idea.

Best.

mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net | Feb 06, 2010

Probably not a bad fit as long as it fills in the wheel openings. One thing to consider is that low profile tires do not ride as smoothly as a higher profile tire because there is not as much sidewall to act as a cushion. Before you make the investment be sure you are willing to give up ride quality.

I think they look positively ridiculous. Big wheels and low-pro tires are just another form of whipping it out to see who is longest.

Numb (2007)

IMDB rating: 6.70

Plot: Screenwriter Hudson Milbank suffers from acute depersonalization disorder. So alienated from his own life that he makes the chronically depressed look perky, Hudson lives alone, watches The Golf Channel all day, can’t hang on to a relationship, shoplifts in order to get his adrenalin up off the floor, fears that thinking about his dad’s death will bring it to pass, loathes his mother, and in general, is as nutty as a crapshack in a peanut farm. Obsessed with the underlying sadness that infuses his wretched existence, Hudson is a man in hell, but he thinks that his long catalogue of dismally unsatisfying and mutually self-destructive relationships is over when SARA stumbles into his life. He knows she can save him. She knows he has to save himself. Together they save each other. And it’s funny too.

Love the movie!

To control the world’s oceans, Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) executes anyone associated with piracy. Beckett, who possesses Davy Jones’ (Bill Nighy) heart, orders Jones to destroy all pirate ships. Condemned prisoners sing a song to compel the nine pirate lords comprising the (fourth) Brethren Court to convene at Shipwreck Cove. However, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), pirate lord of the Caribbean, never appointed a successor, and therefore must attend. Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) leads Will (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), and the Black Pearl crew to rescue Jack. Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat), pirate lord of the South China Sea, possesses a map to the entrance to Davy Jones’s Locker, where Jack is imprisoned. During an attack by the East India Trading Company’s navy, Will bargains with Feng for the Pearl in exchange for Sparrow, so Will can rescue his father from The Flying Dutchman.
The crew journeys into the Locker and retrieves Sparrow. As The Black Pearl seeks an escape route, dead souls float past the Pearl. Tia Dalma reveals that Davy Jones was appointed by Calypso, Goddess of the Sea and his lover, to ferry the dead to the next world. In return, Jones was allowed to step upon land for one day every ten years to be with his love; but when she failed to meet him, the scorned captain abandoned his duty and transformed into a monster. They find Governor Swann with the dead and he reveals that whoever stabs Jones’s heart becomes the Dutchman’s captain.

After returning to the living world, The Black Pearl is ambushed by Sao Feng, who reveals his agreement with Will. However, he betrays Will, having made another deal with Beckett to hand over the crew and keep The Black Pearl. The Endeavor arrives, and takes Sparrow aboard, although he refuses to divulge where the Brethren Court will convene: instead, Jack makes a deal to lead Beckett to the Court and lure them out in exchange for Beckett protecting him from Jones. When Feng is double-crossed by Beckett, he bargains with Barbossa to release the Pearl in exchange for Elizabeth, who he believes is Calypso trapped in human form. Feng attacks the Endeavor, allowing Jack to escape. Feng tells Elizabeth that the first Brethren Court trapped Calypso in human form so men could rule the seas. When Davy Jones attacks Feng’s ship, the mortally wounded Feng appoints Elizabeth as the captain and Pirate Lord of the South China Sea. She and the crew are imprisoned in The Flying Dutchman’s brig. Admiral James Norrington (Jack Davenport) frees Elizabeth and her crew. They escape to their ship, but Norrington is killed by a crazed Bootstrap Bill Turner (Stellan Skarsgard).

Will leaves a trail of corpses for Beckett’s ship to follow. Jack catches Will and they discuss Davy Jones’ heart. Jack suggests he stab the heart, to solve Will’s conflicting obligations (freeing his father and Elizabeth), he then tosses Will overboard after giving him his magical compass so Beckett can find Shipwreck Cove. Will is rescued by Beckett’s ship, and Davy Jones reveals that he masterminded Calypso’s imprisonment by the first Brethren Court. At Shipwreck Cove, the pirate lords present the "nine pieces of eight", but disagree over freeing Calypso. Barbossa calls upon Captain Teague (Keith Richards) to confirm that only a Pirate King can declare war. Elizabeth is elected Pirate King after Sparrow’s vote for her breaks a stalemate. She orders the pirates to war. During a parley with Beckett and Jones, Elizabeth and Barbossa swap Sparrow for Will after realizing Jack and Will’s plan to have Jack stab the heart; swapping Jack would mean that he would then be placed on the Dutchman, where the heart was. Barbossa also steals Jack’s "piece of eight".

Barbossa uses the "pieces of eight" to free Calypso, who was bound as Tia Dalma. As she is released, Will discloses that Davy Jones betrayed her to the Brethren Court. Her fury unleashes a maelstrom, in which the Dutchman and the Pearl battle. Sparrow escapes The Flying Dutchman’s brig and steals the Dead Man’s Chest. Will proposes to Elizabeth, and Captain Barbossa marries them in the midst of battle. Will boards the Dutchman to retrieve the chest, but is mortally wounded by Jones. Sparrow places his sword in Will’s hand and helps him stab Jones’s heart, killing him. Jack and Elizabeth escape The Flying Dutchman as the crew place Will’s heart in the Dead Man’s Chest; the ship disappears into the whirlpool. Beckett, never intending to honor his agreement with Jack, moves to attack The Black Pearl. The Flying Dutchman resurfaces with Will as the captain and the crew now human. The Flying Dutchman and The Black Pearl destroy The Endeavor, killing Beckett. The surviving armada retreats.

please answer my questions for me.booty call and guy questions?
if a guy calls for a booty call is there a certain time he would be calling?and if he was just calling for that would he stay on the phone for almost two hours talking?not only about sex but about a lot of different things.say a guy hasn’t seen you in like two weeks would he even bother calling her asking her where she has been if he didn’t care or like her?and why would he be asking who she is hooking up with if he didn’t care or like her like that, right?also he was talking about just hooking up and he said he doesn’t want her to get attached after they hooked up and i told him that i didn’t think i would but by the way he was sounding he seemed like he was thinking he might get attached.because he did say something about us getting into a relationship even though he said that’s not what he wants.could he be thinking that he might get attached because he was talking like that or not?is this all normal if he just wanted a booty call or could he maybe want something more later on?

Adam C | Feb 08, 2010

He is definately just wanting a booty call! Do not do it! I was in the same situation. He told me that he did not want to get into a relationship but wanted to be "friends with benefits". He still texted me sometimes and asked me what was up but every time we hung out there was just one thing that he wanted. I regret doing anything with him and wish that I would of listened to what he had told me to begin with!
blondieNGa88 | Feb 08, 2010

Time wise a guy will call when ever it suits, no more thought than that. Talking for hours shows boredom and that you connect as friends, but remember you can hang out with mates and talk for hours, it doesn’t automatically mean that there is anything romantically.
You should definately take him at face value, if he says booty call and no relationship, then accept that. While it could change, theres no reason to expect that it will, and definately don’t hold out hope for such. If you are happy with just sex then all well and good, but if you want an actual relationship then look elsewhere.

Do you think we can still distinguish four social categories? Citizens, Gentlemen, the Gentry, The Nobility..?
Citizens = Commoners
Gentlemen = Armigerous individuals from a good family which lost its title.
Gentry = Low Rank Nobles and Life Peers (Non-hereditary)
Nobility = The hereditary nobility and royal family.

To what extent do you agree/disagree?

From an American point-of-view:

Officially, British society still has a fairly rigid class system; but unofficially, income along with "good breeding" contributes to an individual’s social class. For instance, attending Oxford and Cambridge still carries a lot of clout (at least in the academic world). Accent is also very much an outward sign of social class.

Moreover, a quick glance at the British tabloids indicates that social class seems to be something that Royal Watchers pull out when they want to take digs at the prospective husbands or wives of royalty. For example, the press often points out that Kate Middleton’s mother was a flight attendant, and her dad was an airline pilot. Traditionally, social class has been a major component of almost every British novel from Jane Austen onwards.

—At the top, the nobility are divided into two classes, the peerage (dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, and barons) and the gentry (baronets, knights, Scottish barons, and lairds). Titled Brits are always happy to point out they are members of the aristocracy to well-heeled Americans. During the 19th-century, American robber barons occasionally married off their daughters to the aristocracy.

—The term esquire originally was applied to "men of gentle birth"; however, it came to be increasingly applied to barristers as opposed to solicitors. Of course, even United States attorneys add esquire after their name (usually in correspondence with other lawyers). Today, any British man invited to Buckingham Palace who otherwise can’t lay claim to a title merits an esquire after his name.

—As of 1815, the word "gentleman" applied to anyone whose income derived from property and whose ancestors were freemen. By 1845, gentleman came to be applied to anyone above the rank of yeoman. By the mid-19th century, it certainly applied to anybody above the rank of tradesman or with middle-class aspirations. Increasingly, throughout the 19th-century, it came to be applied to any man who acts in a gentlemanly fashion.

—Anyone who is not a peer of the eldest son of a peer is technically classified as a commoner. For example, Lady Diana Spencer was a commoner, even though she was a daughter of an earl.

Of course, stratified class systems exist everywhere even in supposedly classless societies.

Evelyn S | Jan 20, 2010

First of all, sadly, in the UK we are Subjects not Citizens. Anyone not in the Aristocracy is a commoner.
You need to go back to the drawing board.
MaidinKent | Jan 19, 2010

The problem is that you have individuals in all four categories acting like trash.
connor g | Jan 19, 2010

I’m afraid the "four social categories" you mention are simply, crassly, wrong. English (never mind "British", which includes a whole lot of other variables) society has at no time been divided in this way.

- "Citizen" in the 18th-19th centuries meant "well-off city businessman". It has never had the meaning you ascribe to it.

- "Gentry" means no more and no less than "gentlemen and their womenfolk": it’s bizarre to suggest that they are seperate categories! And there are thousands of good families that have been gentry for centuries (some of them since before the Norman Conquest) but have never had a title of any kind. In fact the term "Gentry" in England has always specifically *excluded* everyone with a peerage title – anyone with a peerage is nobility.

- And "Nobility" excludes royalty, who are sui generis.
Syntinen Laulu | Jan 19, 2010

All the differences that you mentioned, I think to mine believes end up on how wealthy this types might be.
cute girl | Jan 19, 2010

"Gentry" means gentleman. It was the highest ranking of Commoners (well, knights were higher). In England, there were Yeomen, who needed 40 pounds per annum from land, and Gentleman, who made 100 pounds or more from land. That class essentially disppeared between WWI and WWII, as the Manor Court rights etc, were abolished in 1926 (Lords of the Manor were no longer judges over their estates), and death duties and land taxes essentially took all of their wealth, which was from the land. Peers (people with titles) were generally better off, and had business interests other than land which kept them going. More or less.

There are social differences between upper and lower class commoners, but the actual naming (yeoman, gentleman etc.) is no longer really observed, and the lines are definitelyy blurred.

Peers are still a group of their own, albeit much less so than evenn 50 years ago, let alone 100. Royalty remains much like it was.

Your definition of gentleman as bieng armigerous. Generally you will be a gentleman if you are armigerous, although not all gentleman had arms. It had nothing to do with titles – I am armigerious from a family once Landed Gentry (that’s how know about it!), but there was never a title (other than Lord of the Manor) in my direct ancestry. Through marriages, yes, but not in my line. So, no "lost" title, just a very old coat of arms.

Holiday liquor store coming to Bellis Fair
17.10.09
BELLINGHAM ? While looking for gifts this holiday season, shoppers at Bellis Fair will now have the option of choosing liquor and wine.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board will open holiday gift stores at four Western Washington malls on Sunday, Nov. 1, as part of a pilot program. The holiday store at Bellis Fair will be in the Macy?s wing, near the Big 5 Sporting Goods store

The stores will have a holiday feel, carrying gift packages such as liquor-based chocolates, eggnog, and wine as well as liquor with special holiday glasses.

?It is not a typical liquor store. The emphasis will be on gifts that shoppers can give during the holidays,? said Brian Smith, spokesman for the Liquor Control Board. He noted the selection will be significantly smaller than a traditional state liquor store.

The reason for the program is two-fold: The agency hopes to generate $3.8 million in addition revenue to help offset the state budget deficit; it also wants to see if customers are interested in holiday stores in convenient locations like a mall.

Smith said several factors were involved in choosing Bellis Fair as one of the four locations, including the fact it?s a major mall serving the northern part of the state. The other malls in the pilot program are Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Pacific Place in Seattle and The Commons at Federal Way.

The holiday store will have a different look than other state liquor stores, but Smith said the same security measures will be in place. While customers must be 21 or older to buy products, people under 21 may enter the store if accompanied by someone over 21. Security cameras will be in the store.

Dennis Curtis, general manager at Bellis Fair, said they aren?t planning to take measures beyond what?s being put in place by the Liquor Control Board. Drinking alcohol is not allowed on mall property except in authorized restaurants.

?It?s an interesting idea; holiday liqueurs are a popular gift,? Curtis said. ?We bring in many different retailers for the holidays, and this is one more for shoppers.?

Along with the holiday gift stores, the Liquor Control Board has a few other projects as it attempts to increase revenue. These include opening 15 new stores in the state, increasing the number of stores open Sundays, opening most state stores on seven holidays and expanding lottery sales in stores.

The Liquor Control Board is seeking comments about the holiday gift stores. Comments can be sent by e-mail to comments@liq.wa.gov.

Wondering how many snake owners on Yahoo Answers do live vs. frozen mice/rats?
Both of my ball pythons and my red tailed boa only likes live rats and refuses to eat anything frozen or pre-killed, is it me or the snakes?

What does your snake(s) prefer?

Don’t worry Mr. Lopez, it’s not you. All animals have preferences, even snakes. In general ball pythons will only eat live. Some can get them to eat FT or PK, but not very often. Red-Tails usually eat either way but it seems that yours prefers live. There is nothing wrong with them or you.

My snakes get thwacked (semi-live) rodents. We’ve done frozen prekilled, but we have a few that refuse anything that doesn’t at least twitch a bit…

My baby ball python will only eat live, i tried for a month to feed him frozen/thawed mice. When it comes to food, he response better to heat, he also knows the bag that i bring it in.

All my snakes are fed "Thwacked" rodents as well. We’ve used F/T and P/K before, but proved to be less than convenient, time wise.

generally lizards prefer pre-killed, snakes like the live rats better so don’t worry it’s the snakes not you
