Holiday liquor store coming to Bellis Fair
17.10.09
BELLINGHAM ? While looking for gifts this holiday season, shoppers at Bellis Fair will now have the option of choosing liquor and wine.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board will open holiday gift stores at four Western Washington malls on Sunday, Nov. 1, as part of a pilot program. The holiday store at Bellis Fair will be in the Macy?s wing, near the Big 5 Sporting Goods store

The stores will have a holiday feel, carrying gift packages such as liquor-based chocolates, eggnog, and wine as well as liquor with special holiday glasses.

?It is not a typical liquor store. The emphasis will be on gifts that shoppers can give during the holidays,? said Brian Smith, spokesman for the Liquor Control Board. He noted the selection will be significantly smaller than a traditional state liquor store.

The reason for the program is two-fold: The agency hopes to generate $3.8 million in addition revenue to help offset the state budget deficit; it also wants to see if customers are interested in holiday stores in convenient locations like a mall.

Smith said several factors were involved in choosing Bellis Fair as one of the four locations, including the fact it?s a major mall serving the northern part of the state. The other malls in the pilot program are Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Pacific Place in Seattle and The Commons at Federal Way.

The holiday store will have a different look than other state liquor stores, but Smith said the same security measures will be in place. While customers must be 21 or older to buy products, people under 21 may enter the store if accompanied by someone over 21. Security cameras will be in the store.

Dennis Curtis, general manager at Bellis Fair, said they aren?t planning to take measures beyond what?s being put in place by the Liquor Control Board. Drinking alcohol is not allowed on mall property except in authorized restaurants.

?It?s an interesting idea; holiday liqueurs are a popular gift,? Curtis said. ?We bring in many different retailers for the holidays, and this is one more for shoppers.?

Along with the holiday gift stores, the Liquor Control Board has a few other projects as it attempts to increase revenue. These include opening 15 new stores in the state, increasing the number of stores open Sundays, opening most state stores on seven holidays and expanding lottery sales in stores.

The Liquor Control Board is seeking comments about the holiday gift stores. Comments can be sent by e-mail to comments@liq.wa.gov.

Can you have two marriage licenses but in different states?
I am going to make this short and sweet….

my husband and i got married a few months ago. he is in the military. we decided not to tell anyone. were technically "engaged" to everyone and now we are planning our big wedding for after deployment.. so were married in Florida already.. but our real wedding is going to be in new jersey.. can i just basically get re married in new jersey without telling them im already married in fl? i ask because no one knows were married and i cant do the re-vow thing.. i need the full marriage ceremony otherwise people are going to think its weird.. or do i find a priest who understands the situation and will do it for us regardless?

thanks!!

talk with a lawyer. i do not see what the problem could be since it is still your husband. but i am no lawyer

Be ready for not a wedding gown but a prison suit for bigamy

It’s not bigamy as you aren’t marrying a different person, so you aren’t breaking that law. Google searching I didn’t find anything really helpful but as an "opinion" (not based upon fact) it sounds like it would be illegal (marriage fraud).

I don’t really remember but it’s possible that the official who gives you the marriage license (County Official etc.) requires you to certify that you are NOT married. If you lie, than you have committed fraud. If you tell them the truth, well they won’t give you another marriage license.

If nobody can cite anything specific, than IMO simply ask a lawyer about the legality of such an act. I would also point out that a Pastor etc. will often keep things "secret" and allow you to give the traditional vows (if that is what you want). The only difference is that they wouldn’t sign a marriage license (it having already been done). It’s not like someone is going to really want to see your marriage license in your family.

tell the priest the situation! all you want is a ceremony ! he don’t have to blab his mouth about it !
"GASH SMASHER" | Nov 17, 2009

Wow, instead of asking priests and JOP’s to lie for you, why don’t you take responsibility and tell the truth yourselves? If you felt you were mature enough to get hitched, be mature enough to own up to it. You can still have a beautiful ceremony just renewing your vows.

Just do the ceremony without the license. Explain to the priest (or whoever officiates) that you are already legally married but you don’t want to disappoint the family. He can do the ceremony and everything will go just as if you hadn’t already been married. The only thing you won’t do is sign the certificate/license, which isn’t part of the public ceremony anyway.
